Winter in review

Hey Diva,
Well...the time has come to officially pack away those winter digs and make room for SPRING! I'll be honest, I'm going to miss winter because I absolutely adore winter clothing. The furs and leather, the layering, and super sexy capes were all a hit this season! Sigh...I'm sure going to miss it, but spring is sure to bring some beautiful fashion.

While we wait, here are my fave winter looks...in no particular order.

Thrifted Winter Fashion - J.Jill Coat Dress

Spoiled Diva in J. Jill Coat Dress

Hey Diva,
So...this is it, my final winter post! And...I made it just under the spring buzzer with this super chic
J. Jill coat dress. I found it at a Goodwill in my neighborhood and...well the rest is history!

I'm in love with the burnt orange color, it's works so well with my skin-tone... and my new burgundy hair color. Certainly you noticed my hair, right? We'll talk more about that later.

I added a faux fur shawl and belt for what I call "Diva'ttude"! And...the thigh high leather boots are the icing on the cake!
So, who's ready for Spring? I say bring on the open toe sandals, maxi skirts and crop tops!

Until next time.

DIY Faux Fur Trimmed Cape

Hey Diva,
As you know, capes are super HAUTE right now and I just know you’ve seen them all over the runways! But did you know that you can make your own in several easy steps? I created this one without a sewing machine, and today, I will show you exactly how I did it!

Step 1. Start with about 1 yard of fleece or wool. Perhaps you have an old fleece blanket that you can use. Fold it in half length wise with the selvage edges together. Then, fold in half a second time. Cut a small half circle for the neckline. Do not cut too deep or the neckline will be too large! If you want, go ahead and round off the bottom edge.

Step 2. Open the cape and lay flat. Cut down the center front on one layer. If you want, you can create armholes on the front of your cape. Mark the position for your armholes and cut slits about 12" long through one layer. I trimmed my armholes with faux leather remnants! You can either hand stitch the faux leather to the cape or use a hot glue gun.

Step 3. I finished the neckline with a neck facing and the outer edge of the caps with black faux leather piping. Ladies, this is where your creativity kicks in. You can finish your edges however you choose...perhaps with fur trim, with pinking shears, or a simple hem. It's up to you, GET CREATIVE! Again, you can either hand sew your embellishments, hot glue gun them, or if you are savvy with a sewing machine...go for it!

For the final step, I embellished the neckline with faux fur and added a crown pin. Then, I added simple hook and eye closures at the center front to close it.

What do you think…easy right? I’d love to see your DIY cape designs, please share!

Until next time.

Faux Leather Trim Sweater Dress

Heather Grey Sweater Dress by Spoiled Diva by CL Felder

Hey Diva,
I just love a super sexy sweater dress, don’t you? This one is an original design by Spoiled Diva by CL Felder and I just love the fit and the faux leather accents.

With only a few more weeks until spring, I figured I’d better hurry up and get at least one wear out of it before it’s time to pack it away!

Here, I’m wearing it with a faux fur shawl for added drama. After all, you can never have too much drama.

Until next time.

Thrifted Winter Fashion - Burberrys Cape

Left: Burberrys Cape, Target Boyfriend Jean, Michael Kors Handbag and Pumps

Hey Diva,
So…here’s another one of my fabulous thrifted frocks…a Burberry’s cape made of 100% lamb’s wool! Ain’t it HAUTE? It dates back to a few years before the company changed their name by dropping the letter "S". I found it at Finders Keepers Consignment in Decatur, GA and once again, I found a keeper.

As you might have noticed, capes are everything right now and I know you’ve seen them all over the fashion runways!  I especially love how each designer has their own take on design aesthetic and fabrication.

One of my fave capes designs to date is the beautiful white one that singer Solange wore for her wedding a few weeks back. I’m pretty sure you already know the one I’m referencing. Now that was stunning!

Whatever your preference, I’m pretty sure you can find a cape style that fits your personality…and when you do, go on and release your inner diva!

What do you think of the Cape trend and which is your favorite design?

Until next time.
